Howell schools expect to make $2.7M in cuts
Howell Public Schools administrators are anticipating making $2.7 million in reductions to next school year’s general fund budget, moves that would slash the jobs of several secretaries, media professionals, counselors and other staff.
Rick Terres, the district's associate superintendent for business, presented the preliminary reductions Monday based on an expected $3.7 million shortfall in the district’s $66.5 million spending plan for 2010-2011. He said the district hopes to realize an additional $1 million in savings from potential concessions provided by the district’s bargaining units.
The anticipated budget shortfall assumes the district will lose 150 students next year as well as take on increased employee health costs.
